For Immediate Release August 5th 2007 PICA and galleryHomeland Present An Evening with Tim Folland and Ianthe Jackson. Monday August 13th 2007 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at The PICA Resource Room 224 NW 13th Ave, Suite 305 Portland, Oregon 97209 Visiting Brooklyn artists participating in Scratching the Surface 07, will be explaining new works for Portland Oregon. Scratching the Surface is a community based public project that draws focus to the Willamette River’s strength as a unifier of diversities and a link, both symbolically and literally, with communities beyond the city limits. Through site specific installations, gallery exhibits, film and video presentations, lectures, and performances this project will continue to introduce people to a new way of seeing and participating in the life of their city. Every year galleryHomeland brings in two visiting artists to come and participate in this grand project. This year Tim Folland and Ianthe Jackson come to Portland with new concepts and new works specifically for Portland. Tim Folland is a multimedia artist working in video, painting and sculpture. He has presented solo and collaborative installations and performances in New York,Miami, Maine, and California, including: The Portland Museum of Art, Morris Graves Museum of Art, Hardcore Art Contemporary, and Jack the Pelican Presents. His video series "Tools for Destroying Paintings" has been screened nationally at venues including: Monkey Town, Hell on Reels, Cinema Scope, Center for Maine Contemporary Art and internationally at Prenelle Gallery- London, Temporary Cities Lithuania, and National Center for Contemporary Arts - Moscow. His work is also included in the flat files at the Drawing Center, Pierogi, Artists Space, Bernard Toale Gallery, and Small "A" Video Library. "Tim Folland leaps into an arena of no man's land - where does destruction end and creation begin?"NY Arts Magazine Ianthe Jackson was born in Buffalo, NY and currently lives and works in NYC. She attended undergraduate school at School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and received her MFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She is represented by Jack the Pelican Gallery in Brooklyn, had solo shows at Luxe Gallery's project room in NYC and exhibited at Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary in 2004. Jackson has attended residencies at Sculpture Space in 2003, ARTOmi in 2005, Shining Cliff Residency as part of My House Gallery in England and Homeland Gallery in Portland Oregon in 2007. Jackson's work regularly shows internationally.
