gH. News & Upcoming Events - Spring '07 |
It's been a busy year so far. Last year we ended our programming with our very successful show Residence. Following the closing of that show galleryHOMELAND’s director Paul Middendorf headed to Miami’s Art Basel bringing works by Paige Saez, Hayley Barker, and Josh Arseneau. During this trip we made partnerships with a half dozen new organizations and galleries. We spent a great deal of time working with various groups within the Scope Miami fair as well as the latest Scope NY fair in February. Gallery Homeland had over a month to meet with gallerist and local artists in N.Y.C. galleryHOMELAND in N.Y.C.Paul Middendorf worked with Raphaele Shirley and Lee Wells in Emergency Room a group show at PS1 MOMA. We had time to talk with many organizations and galleries from Manhattan and Williamsburg. So we come back to Portland with some great new collaborations and new projects.Art Basel and Scope Art Fair Switzerland 6/7galleryHOMELAND is working on a few projects and events to happen in Basel Switzerland in June 07. More information TBA.Don Pedro FoundationCollaborating has always been an important element of galleryHOMELAND’s mission. In NY Middendorf was approached by John & Meghan Avelluto about galleryHOMELAND’s Residency Program. After several meetings it was agreed that the US is much too narrow as far as the reach a residency should have. This is why Gallery Homeland will be partnering up with The Don Pedro Foundation headed by the Avelluto’s to begin with a new extension of residency’s and art exchanges. This new extension is to take place in the wonderful Italian town of Mola di Bari.Together we will be sending an exchange of ideas and concepts between NYC, Portland, and Mora di Bari. Working with the local government we will be establishing a long lasting relationships and cross-pollinating between continents starting as early as Fall 07! Scratching the Surface 07With such great response and feedback we couldn't’t miss another summer of fun!Homeland is looking at an amazing line up of events and gathering of artists and community. House CallAdam Ross and friends have been programming shows for over a year. Each show carries a new set of artists and a different title and them. The steps are easy to understand. Clear out the entire lower level of your house, gather some of the finest represented and un represented artists in town, hang work and enjoy. Every night comes equipped with great music, food, and entertainment. Gallery Homeland is proud to sponsor several House Calls for Spring and Summer 07. More information coming soon. Video ReprogrammingLast year we held Odds and Ends curated by Karl Lind featuring dozens of video artists from across the country. On opening night we couldn't’t fit a single other person in our space and had to turn folks away! Well we are at it again. Each month we will be acquiring another one of Portland’s celebrated video artists to provide one night of videos. These nights range from shorts to feature length of the artists or their friends. The artists make up one of the best film and video circuits in the country and we will have them for a few hours. Scheduled to start in April, stay tuned for more details. Homeland Talking
