| In March 2006, Homeland welcomed its first artist-in-residence, Chicago artist Bonnie Fortune. Bonnie Fortune, an artist familiar with all fields and facets of the art world, is currently focused on her work with Free Walking. Free Walking is based on the shared experience of exploring places on foot. Like most cultural work, it is as much a form of entertainment as an exploration. The walks are designed and led by someone with a local knowledge, accumulated either through research or their day to day experience of a place. In early 2004, Bonnie Fortune began the Free Walking project in conversation with a group of friends. The experiences that arose from this project have been rewarding. They brought us into contact with new friends and new ideas. To read some of the writing from the Free Walking ‘zines check out Freewalking.org. The website will continue to develop as a public documentation of all the walks and projects. Vistit Bonnie's web space here. View the Portland Mercury's interview with Bonnie. |
