For additional information about the Don Pedro Residency visit there blog here.

Collaborating has always been an important element of galleryHomeland’s mission. In New York Paul Middendorf was approached by John & Meghan Avelluto about galleryHomeland’s Residency Program. After several meetings it was agreed that the US is much too narrow as far as the reach a residency is concerned. This is why galleryHomeland will be partnering up with The Don Pedro Residency headed by the Avellutos to begin with a new extension of residency’s and art exchanges. This new extension is to take place in the wonderful Italian town of Mola di Bari.
Together we will be sending an exchange of ideas and concepts between NYC, Portland, and Mora di Bari. Working with the local government we will be establishing a long lasting relationships and cross-pollinating between continents starting as early as Fall 07!

about the program

As part of an independent study project with Harrell Fletcher at Portland State University, Paige Saez began acquiring small amounts of student loan money for an artist’s residency program which she ran from her own space. Utilizing both her own space and the loan money enabled her to invite artists and art related groups to come to Portland, live here and create here for one month. Such self-produced residency projects included artists Jean-Paul Jenkins and the Michigan arts group Dynamite. At the time, these projects were documented and cataloged on CD. In the coming months we have hopes of sending Portland artists to cities across the country and bringing other national artists to Portland for the same month-long period. Portland needs this type of high-level arts exchange and Homeland is actively seeking resources to continue supporting this program. Participation with other like organizations and arts groups will help to encourage both visiting and local artists to participate and create outside of academia. Paul Middendorf continues to promote Portland and Portland-based artists through Gallery Homeland and its residency program.
