Damien Gilley
Gilley presents a new wall drawing regarding ideas of value, defense and confusion in relation to the retail industry. Inspired by the “pop-up shop” phenomenon and a distinct undercurrent of desperation seen in the industry, it depicts an alluring department store entrance that becomes increasingly unsettling. The drawing, made from cut vinyl and spray paint, utilizes the existing architecture to amplify the sense that there is a new and expanded perspective beyond the gallery walls; a virtual space for commerce to unfold.
Gilley’s work has been exhibited nationally at venues like the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi, Las Vegas Museum of Art, and Arthouse in Austin, Texas. Gilley is the Founder and Curator of Igloo Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
