Ethan Rose
In “Movements” Rose continues his work combining old-fashiond, automated musical equipment with his contemporary sensibility; blending and recontextualizing the familiar and the new. “Movements” employs a score of tiny music boxes mounted to the gallery walls; all carefully timed and meticulously choreographed to create a sensation of spatial transformation and extend the aural experience of the gallery space. Rose has performed with internationally recognized music group Small Sails, composed motion picture soundtracks for Gus Van Sant and his sound installation work has been exhibited with institutions like Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) and the Museum for Contemporary Craft.
